Great Migration Safari in Serengeti National ParkThis 8-day Great Migration Safari offers a chance to witness the dramatic river crossings of the Tanzania Wildebeest Migration from July to September. The Mara River in Northern Serengeti is the prime location to view this awe-inspiring natural phenomenon. The extreme northern end of Serengeti National Park offers a privileged vantage point to observe the mass migration while enjoying the newly upgraded comforts of Tanzanian safari travel. The river presents numerous challenges to the wildebeest, including deep, fierce currents, narrow defiles, mud, and crocodiles. Exhausted and terrified, they surge through the torrential flow and often find themselves returning to the same scenes of their ordeal, allowing the cycle to repeat itself. Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to witness the Tanzania Wildebeest Migration in all its glory!

At Leyu Tours, we offer a unique opportunity to witness the incredible river crossings of the Tanzania Wildebeest Migration in the Mara River

area. From July to September, massive herds of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle migrate from the Serengeti to the Masai Mara in search of fresh grazing, braving the treacherous currents, steep banks, and lurking crocodiles of the Mara River.

Our experienced guides will take you to prime locations along the river, where you can witness the dramatic spectacle of thousands of animals surging through the water, often with heart-stopping moments of struggle and panic. We prioritize safety and conservation, ensuring that our tours are conducted responsibly and without disrupting the animals or their environment.

Day 1

Arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport to Arusha

Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, your safari guide/driver will be there to meet you and provide a comfortable transfer to the Green Mountain Hotel in Arusha. Enjoy a delicious dinner and settle in for an overnight stay. During this time, you'll have the opportunity for a safari briefing and introduction to your upcoming adventure.

Day 2

Arusha to Serengeti (North)

After enjoying breakfast at your hotel, your tour will depart for a game drive in Northern Mara, located in the Northern Serengeti. The Serengeti is known for its incredible wildlife and stunning views, and is particularly famous for the annual migration of over 1.5 million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebras, which takes place from July to October. Witness the incredible spectacle of territorial conquests and mating as these animals navigate crocodile-infested waters. During this time, the wildebeest give birth to over 8,000 calves daily before embarking on their 1,000 km (600 miles) pilgrimage again. After a thrilling day, you will return to Mbugani Tented Lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3

Full Day Serengeti North (Koga Tende).

Following breakfast, the tour will depart for a full-day game drive in Serengeti North, providing an opportunity to view the great migration in action. The Kogatende river crossings, which begin in August, are a particularly exciting spectacle to witness as the mega herd settles into the area. Between August and October, game viewing is at its peak with daily river crossings. The herds have no distinct movement, as they cross back and forth over the river, following the rains and fresh grasses. After a day of thrilling game viewing, you will return to Mbugani Tented Lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4

Full Day Serengeti North (Koga Tende).

After enjoying breakfast, you will embark on a full-day game drive to view the great migration in the Mara area. The Wagakuria area is known for its exceptionally high resident wildlife numbers, with the Mara River serving as a key feature. There is a great chance to witness the herds crossing the river to the north one day and back south a few days later. Please note that crossing sightings can be challenging and are sometimes a matter of luck. A herd can be seen next to the river and only decide to cross a few days later. This region boasts stunning landscapes, including kopjes, woodland, riverine vegetation, and open plains, reminiscent of Kenya's Masai Mara Game Reserve. After an exciting day of game viewing, you will return to Mbugani Tented Lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5

Serengeti North to Serengeti National Park (Central Seronera).

Following breakfast at your camp/lodge, you will depart for Serengeti Central, Tanzania's oldest and most popular national park and a UNESCO world heritage site. The Serengeti is renowned for its annual migration, where over six million hooves pound the open plains, with more than 200,000 zebras and 300,000 Thomson's gazelles joining the wildebeest’s trek for fresh grazing. Even during quieter periods, the Serengeti offers exceptional game viewing in Africa, with vast herds of buffalo, smaller groups of elephant and giraffe, and thousands of eland, topi, kongoni, impala, and Grant’s gazelle. After an unforgettable day of game viewing, you will return to Mbugani Tented Lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 6

Full Day Central Serengeti (Central Seronera)

Following breakfast, you will embark on a full-day game drive in Central Serengeti, immersing yourself in the park's abundant wildlife. In addition to the large mammals, Serengeti is also home to vibrant agama lizards and rock hyraxes that scuttle around the surfaces of the park's isolated granite koppies. There is a wide variety of dung beetles to be found, and over 500 bird species have been recorded in the park, ranging from the impressive ostrich and quirky secretary bird of the open grassland to the majestic black eagles that soar effortlessly above the Lobo Hills. After an unforgettable day of game viewing, you will return to Mbugani Tented Lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 7

Central Serengeti to Ngorongoro Area

Embark on an early morning game drive before heading to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. En route, stop at Olduvai Gorge, a historic site dating back to the beginning of time, where Drs. Lois and Mary Leakey discovered the skulls of "Nutcracker Man" and "Handy Man," significant links in human evolution. In the late afternoon, transfer to Ngorongoro Rhino Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 8

Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha

After a delicious breakfast, Leyu Tours will take you on a thrilling descent over 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater, where you can enjoy a half-day safari tour and witness a wide range of wildlife. The Ngorongoro National Park is renowned for its year-round water supply and fodder, supporting a diverse population of animals, including wildebeest, zebras, buffalos, elands, warthogs, hippos, and African elephants. Moreover, the park is home to an impressive number of predators such as lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, and the elusive leopard that requires a trained eye to spot.

You will also have the opportunity to visit Lake Magadi, located in the southwestern corner of the crater, known for its shallow alkaline water and being one of the main attractions of the park. The lake is often populated by flamingos, hippos, and other water birds, making it a must-see for nature enthusiasts.

After an exhilarating wildlife experience, you will drive back to Arusha for a relaxing evening at Green Mountain Hotel, where you will enjoy a scrumptious dinner and spend the night.

Day 9
